Vision and Values

'Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their life.'

- Proverbs 22:6

We all work together to build a caring, inclusive community, in which we all grow and flourish under God's guidance. We teach our children the Christian values and attitudes to learning that they need to become good World citizens and all reach their full potential academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

 St Lawrence Learner:

At St Lawrence, we believe that a child’s time at Primary School is  precious and extremely valuable and our job is to use it well.  In thinking about how we do this, we have created the concept of a St Lawrence Learner focusing on the attitudes and skills necessary to learn effectively and then we have considered what this would look like in every year group.

We also believe that before a child can achieve their full academic potential they need to have the right attitude towards learning, independence, an ability to get on with others and a clear understanding of how their behaviour can affect not only their own learning but that of others too.

In the St Lawrence Learner Through the School Years you will find a description of a St Lawrence Learner through each year group and a description of our expectations of how our children might grow and develop in their years in our School. Your child’s teachers will discuss and report on your child as a St Lawrence Learner and the key areas of growth and development throughout the year-we believe that these are crucial areas which underpin academic success and our mission to educate the whole child.

Values:

As a Church of England school, Christian values underpin our ethos.  We believe that a strong set of core values creates a positive environment where children are encouraged to be successful, confident and responsible citizens who lead fulfilling lives.

Teaching values promotes the children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, enabling them to develop their own moral and ethical compass to guide what is right and what is wrong.

Our Values have been decided by the staff, children and governors

We have chosen eight core values to be developed through assemblies, class discussion and direct teaching through our daily collective worship. During collective worship our children have the opportunity to think about the value, linking it to their own lives, through music, stories and images.

There are eight St Lawrence Values which are taught alongside our St Lawrence attitudes to learning.

Attitudes:

Through the concept of St Lawrence Learner we help pupils to develop the behaviour, attitudes and skills that they need in order to learn effectively. The attitudes above were agreed by the school community.

St Lawrence Learner attitudes and skills support our school Christian Values.
