Sports Premium
What is the Sports Premium Grant?
The Government has provided additional funding for primary schools since 2013 in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport. This funding comes from the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport.
The funding can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. We are held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupil progress and participation in PE and school sport. We are required to publish on-line information about how we have used the additional funding, including details about our sports provision alongside curriculum details.
How much money do we receive?
All schools with 17 or more primary-aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £16000 plus a premium of £10 per pupil in years 1-6
We receive approx. £17500 per year.
How do we decide what to spend it on?
Our rationale for the use of Sports Premium funding, which has been agreed by the Governors is that we must use it so that:
- all children should benefit regardless of their sporting ability
- staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development
- children have opportunities to compete in tournaments and events with other schools
- we build up a partnership with other schools and clubs
- some activities and clubs may be subsidised so that pupils have opportunities eg clubs, swimming
How are we spending this money?
PE lessons are planned by class teachers and supported by class Teaching Assistants.
Planning is developed and is built on so that this is a lasting legacy.
- continued membership of the Woking Area Sports Partnership (WASPS)
- supporting and engaging pupils through new of additional sports clubs
- purchasing equipment and resources to improve lessons, clubs and playtimes
- raising the profile of sport and fitness through additional school events (whole school Cross Country event, Girls Football Tournament, B team netball tournaments and games)
- increasing the amount of competitive sport in which our children participate and encouraging more pupils to enter
- making links to other community sports providers- encouraging pupils to join out of school sports clubs
- encouraging our children to improve their leadership skills through sports leaders
- developing intra-school competitions
- setting up an increased number of successful lunchtime and afterschool clubs
- introducing a variety of sports such as lacrosse, ultimate frisbee and archery into the lessons
- increasing the amount of swimming offered to non-swimmers so that a higher percentage reach the required standards
Do you evaluate this spending?
We will evaluate the impact of the funding as part of a regular evaluations and through pupil voice. We will look at how well we use our Sport Premium to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sporting provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of. We aim to increase the activity of all children in school, in particular reluctant children. We have already seen an increase in the numbers of pupils entering events and joining clubs. Over 80% of our pupils in KS2 accessed at least one sports club last year. Our pupils have over 2 hours of timetabled physical activity each week. This includes running the Daily Mile at least 3 times a week. We were one of the first schools in the area to introduce this initiative.
Measuring the impact of the activities provided with sports premium funding can be achieved in different ways. We will look at progress in PE as well as other areas of development such as self-esteem, confidence and the numbers of pupils involved in sporting activities in and out of school. Assessments are made both formally and informally using our school assessment systems as well as feedback from staff and visitors to the school. We will also evaluate the impact of professional development opportunities in improving teaching and learning in PE.
We are aiming to improve the number of pupils able to swim 25m on leaving Year 6. In order to do this we aim to give additional lessons and practice time to pupils below this level.
