Special EducationAL Needs

St. Lawrence C of E Primary School is an inclusive school.  We work to ensure that pupils are included in all aspects of learning and school life.  We aim to provide a high standard of education which develops and inspires all our children.

Children sometimes experience difficulties and require additional support to meet their needs or improve their learning.  The decision to put this in place is made by the school and is based on a variety of factors including academic progress and assessments carried out by teaching staff or other professionals.  Occasionally children may need additional support to ensure that they have a smooth transition or they may require specific support when going through a significant change in their lives.  We would always involve parents/carers in these decisions.

Support is planned by school staff and when appropriate, by external agencies.  This would be documented in Pupil Profiles and shared with parents/carers in meetings.  The whole school provision map details what is provided for all as Quality First Teaching (QFT) and also what is available for children with additional or special educational needs. This  may include provision for children with English as an additional language; we do not consider these children as pupils with SEND. We are proud to be an inclusive school and our universal offer of QFT includes adaptations and personalisation.

There have been many changes nationally to Special Educational Needs Provision. We hold meetings to discuss provision and Mrs Tucker is available for individual appointments. We value the partnership between home and school and encourage parents to share concerns or information as soon as a need arises.

The range of provision and support available to identified children is dependent on budgetary constraints and policy review, and so maybe subject to change.

Any document available on this website is also available as a paper copy from the school office. Please contact the Inclusion Leader Mrs Anne Tucker via the school office if you have any questions regarding the documents.

Our Additional and Special Educational Needs Policy  and our Accessibility Plan and Policy are available on our policy page.
